Bible passage

Teacher Video

Last week we spoke about the crucifixion of Christ and before that we had discussed the triumphant entry into Jerusalem. It was sad to see our Lord die on the cross for all our sins. This week we are going to talk about the good news and how Jesus defeated death. Jesus was the perfect sacrifice for sin, his death made it possible for all of to be forgiven and receive a place in heaven. To better understand the story we are going to be looking at the different passages in the Bible.

John 20:1-17 - Three days after the death of Jesus, we see Mary Magdalene go to the tomb early in the morning to see her Lord. But, she was shocked to see the stone rolled away. Her Saviour’s body was not found in the tomb. Later we read that Jesus’ body was not in the tomb because he had been resurrected from the dead.

Before this incident we read in John 11:25-26, Jesus tells Mary the sister of Lazarus, “I am the resurrection and the Life. Those who believe in me will have life even if they die.” What does it mean to have life after we die? We all want to live with Jesus forever and ever, right? We can if we accept Jesus into our hearts by believing in him and making him your personal Saviour.

All of us are sinners. No one can ever pay for our sins without the help of Jesus. The good news is that Jesus came into the world to die for all of our sins so that we can be with him forever.

Let’s read 1 Pet 1: 3-5  (The MSG)

3-5 What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have him, this Father of our Master Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven—and the future starts now! God is keeping careful watch over us and the future. The Day is coming when you’ll have it all—life healed and whole.

Isn’t it wonderful that, we have hope when we believe in him! As human beings we do bad things like lying, stealing, speaking bad about others, etc. However bad you think you have been, if you believe in Jesus, we have hope- because Jesus came into this earth, died for all our sins as we read in John 3:16 and rose again as we read in John 20.

In fact verse 7 goes on to say - When Jesus wraps this all up, it’s your faith, not your gold, that God will have on display as evidence of his victory.

Just think about that verse. Have you ever got a medal or certificate and kept it in a place where all can see? That’s how proud our faith makes Jesus. Jesus asks you and me to believe in His life, death and resurrection so that we may live eternally with him. Do you believe?

Romans 6:23, “For the wages if sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

A short prayer:

Dear Lord,

Thank you for redeeming me by dying on the cross which restored my relationship with God.

Make a bookmark: write the verse that you like in today's lesson on a cardboard paper and cut it out in the shape of a nice bookmark. If you like colouring, add some nice colours too!
