What does everybody want to achieve in life? The goals may be different, but the underlying yearning is for a happy and fearless life. When you wake up in the morning, what do you pray for? We may thank God for His love and mercy for enabling us to see the new day, may seek His blessings upon us and our loved ones, may spell out our fears and ask for His protection. Even though we commit the day into God’s care, we sometimes are so fearful, especially when we come face to face with evil. Yes, evil is a real part of this world! And the devil is the master of all evil. Ephesians 2:2, refers to Satan as “the ruler of the kingdom of air”. He has challenged God that he will make the world follow him and turn against God. From the ‘Garden of Eden’ till date, the devil is at work, deceiving people and pulling them away from God.
Whether in movies or in real life, we see the struggle against evil requires extraordinary qualities. We need to REALIZE that, our struggle is not against flesh and blood (i.e, man) but against many forces - against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. That’s why we need to put on the full armor of God. As children of God, we need to follow Eph 6: 10-12 and develop these extraordinary qualities.
How do we translate our realization into response? We need to RECOGNIZE the areas of weakness that Satan could make us fall. From James 1:14-15, we read, “but each one is tempted, when by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. The areas of weakness can be the desire to become popular/accepted, so that you would do anything to please them. With God’s help, we need to recognize the areas of weakness to guard ourselves against the devil’s schemes.
Even though it may sound scary that the devil schemes against us, we need to tackle the fear. REMEMBER to constantly remind yourself that once you have made a decision to follow Jesus, the battle against the devil is God’s. In John 17:15, Jesus prays for his believers to God the Father, “My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.
Isn’t it amazing?
Jesus has already delivered us from the evil age by His death on the cross (Gal 1:4)-Past
He is praying to the Father on our behalf (John 17:15) - Present
No one would be unsettled by these trials (1 Thess 3:3)- Future
We are totally covered!
