Fearless of Evil

This video contains: Praise and Worship (00:00); Skit (08:46); Missionary video (12:03); Lesson (23:08); Activity (28:28)

In the previous lesson, we learnt that we need not fear judgement when we decide to follow Christ. Rather we live in fear and obedience of Him. Today, we are going to see how the devil is an evil reality in our lives.

This lesson will help us to understand that we need not fear the devil and his evil  schemes but rather we must learn how to be alert and deal with him with God's help.

In the Bible passage (Acts 5:1-11), we see the tragic end of Ananias and Sapphira for lying to the Holy Spirit. The Bible warns us to be alert and aware of the devil and his evil schemes. Ananias and Sapphira sold a piece of property and put the money at the apostle's feet. They seemed to be outwardly generous, but their motives were not so. They schemed to keep back for themselves part of money while pretending to give the church all of the money.

Let's see what Peter indicates is the role of Satan. In vs 3 , Peter tells Ananias “How is that Satan has filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land?” 1 Peter 5:8-9  warns us to stay alert and watch out our great enemy Satan.

We need to RECOGNIZE the areas of weakness that Satan could make us fall. From James 1:14-15, we read, “but each one is tempted, when by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Our areas of weakness can be the desire to become popular/accepted, to be seen as generous and so on. With God’s help, we need to recognize our areas of weakness to guard ourselves against the devil’s schemes.

Sometimes, we are so comfortable being a regular 'church going Christian'. But we take God so lightly like Ananias and Sapphira. We also think a small sin won't matter. Though we are aware of sin- we tend to ignore it. We must be alert to the warnings the Holy Spirit gives us. We must stay close to God through meditation and prayer and producing the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

In Acts 5:7, Peter asked Sapphira whether that was the price they got for the land; she says yes. She too lies and doesn’t admit her sin. She should have feared the Lord and spoken the truth.

When we have the fear of the Lord and rely on Him, we resist evil and will have victory over sin. We don't have to fear evil at all.
